Glaucoma is an eye condition where optic nerve which is connected to brain becomes damaged. It can lead to loss of vision if not detected and treated earlier. Glaucoma is the single largest cause of irreversible blindness in the world.

Normal eye pressure is maintained by a fine inflow with outflow of fluid in the eye. Raised eye pressure is one of the important risk factors for glaucoma.

It usually occurs when the fluid in the eye cannot drain properly, which increases the pressure inside the eye which puts pressure on the optic nerve.

Glaucoma does not usually have any symptoms to begin with, which often picked up during a routine eye test.

It can affect people of all ages but most common in adults in his 50s and 60s.
